Sibling duo Shraddha and Siddhanth Kapoor's Haseena Parkar biopic delayed again
Mumbai: After pushing the release date from July 14 to August 18, in order to avoid clash with Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’; the makers of ‘Haseena Parkar' have yet again postponed the release date of the movie.
According to a report in mid-day, a source close to the development has revealed to them that the film’s distributor, Anil Thadani, is reluctant about releasing the gangster biopic in August because this month is already ‘cluttered with too may releases’.
The source said, “The decision to postpone the film was taken last week. Anil Thadani (the film's distributor), the producers and director Apoorva Lakhia realised that August was cluttered with too many releases. They realised that Haseena will have to compete with two biggies that are releasing in the weeks before — Shah Rukh Khan's Jab Harry Met Sejal (August 4) and Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha [August 11]. What makes it worse is that besides Haseena Parkar, there are three releases lined up for August 18 — Bareilly Ki Barfi, Newton and Partition 1947.”
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, ‘Haseena’ is based on the life of India’s Most Wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar, who was allegedly an extortionist herself and believed to have run a proxy business on behalf of her absconding brother.
Talking about the fate of the film, the source added that the makers are ‘confident’ about its content and don’t want to the film to go unnoticed.
“The makers are confident of their film and don't want it to get lost in the clutter. That's why they decided to push the release.”
Even the director of ‘Haseena Parkar’, which was previously titled ‘Haseena: Queen of Mumbai’, confirmed the news, saying, “We collectively decided to postpone the film so that it can get enough screens and a worthy run at the box-office.”
This is the second time the film has been postponed owing to stiff competition from other banners. On July 14, ‘Haseena’ would have battled against Ranbir-Katrina’s ‘Jagga Jasoos’ and Sridevi’s ‘Mom’.
The makers are yet to announce the film’s new release date.
