Silk Smitha— The Untold Story will be directed by Jayaram Sankaran, a former assistant to Bijoy Nambiar. In an exclusive conversation with DC, Jayaram shared his vision for the film, emphasising the need for an authentic portrayal of Silk Smitha, who has often been referenced in cinema without proper consent or representation. “Producer Vijay’s decision to collaborate with Smitha’s brother Naga Vara Prasad ensures that the film respects and honours her legacy,” he said.
Jayaram expressed his commitment to portraying Smitha truthfully, focusing not just on her on-screen persona but also on her life away from the spotlight.
He adds, “The choice of Chandrika Ravi for the role was influenced by her passion to play Silk Smitha and her ability to empathise with the late actress’ turbulent life. I found similarities in their life experiences. To prepare for the role, Chandrika attended extensive workshops, further solidifying her commitment to accurately depict Silk Smitha’s character.” Having researched extensively about Smitha’s life, Jayaram concludes, “The biopic will be a genuine and respectful tribute to the iconic actress, providing insights into her personal life and the challenges she faced.”
