Not wanting to let a good script slip away, Kareena, Alia and Shahid charged half their original fees to be part of the film.

So impressed were the lead actors of Udta Punjab by the plot of the film, that all three of them — Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt — decided to slash their fees by half to accommodate director Abhishek Choubey’s project.
Says a source, “They knew that it wasn’t a run of the mill Bollywood film. It has a very interesting storyline and talks about substance abuse in Punjab.
All three agreed to be part of the film immediately—at half their fees. Their only request was to not let the word out, since that could possibly affect their remuneration for other films.” It’s a little too late for that now.
