Chennai teen Yashika is a popular name in the Instagram world with nearly a million followers. This 17-year-old is now aiming to make it big in the cinema industry. Though she has appeared in several commercials, it took five years for Yashika to make her on-screen debut in a film. She played a brief role in the recently-released Kavalai Vendam starring Jiiva and Kajal Aggarwal.
Pinning her hopes on Karthick Naren’s Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru in which she plays the heroine alongside Rahman, the teenager quips —“When I lost hope in the film industry, I got this opportunity to play the role of a victim in this film. It is an investigative thriller that revolves around 16 characters. I will be the driving force in the movie. While shooting for Dhuruvangal.. I realised that this is my passion and I had to work hard to give my best.”
Her five-year journey in Kollywood was not a bed of roses — “I was asked sexual favours by popular directors and producers, but I was clear that I don’t want to do films by compromising. After much struggle, I got a brief role in Inimey Ippadithaan, but my scenes were chopped off because I couldn’t go for a song shoot. I learnt it the hard way.”
Yashika attributes her success to her supportive parents and her school management. “My dad Chethan made sure that I learnt everything — horse riding, karate, and swimming. He even made me learn to ride the Bullet~ After I finish my schooling, I plan to go to Sushmita Sen’s modelling academy and enroll in an acting course,” she concludes, with a smile.
