Stars open up to me easily: Suhasini Mani Ratnam
Suhasini Mani Ratnam, who took a hiatus from television, is back with hosting a show, Weekend with Stars, where celebrities get candid. The National Award winner has also undergone a makeover for the show.
It is imperative these days for the host of a show to appear in custom-made attires onscreen and make a style statement. Suhasini is no different. The actress, who is popular for her show Hasini Pesum Padam, says she chooses her clothes according to the show. “I go with the theme of the programme and accordingly customise my clothes. Hasini Pesum Padam was about reviewing Tamil movies that released every week. I felt it is more of an international platform and hence used trendy trousers and different kinds of tops,” Suhasini reveals.
For her new show Weekend with Stars, she has chosen Indo-western outfits by renowned designer Rehana Basheer. “In my earlier programmes, the stress was more on my face and hair as I sat and hosted the shows. In this programme, actors open up to me. And as a host for this show, I am standing throughout the show and hence, the importance is more on the silhouettes. So, we planned to make costumes that gave a feeling of closeness and a friendly touch for the show,” quips the Sindhu Bhairavi actress.
She quickly adds, “The real image makeover I would call is my drastic diet programme! (laughs). I took up special yoga and a diet from Sreenath Vishnu. And amazingly, I lost 5.5 kgs in 20 days and my husband Mani shed six kilos in a month.”
She also reveals that her hairdos for the show are done keeping in mind the scorching heat. “With summer in Chennai, I am struggling with my long hair. I do my own hair-dos which are comfortable.”
Talking about how she has an edge over other anchors like DD and Anu Haasan, she says, “Since I have acted with most of the stars I am interacting with, the comfort level with them is higher. I am not a stranger to them. That way I can bring out the best from them and reveal their unknown side.”
“For example, I shot an episode with Bhagayaraj sir. He opened up about his late first wife, actress Praveena (she was also a good friend of mine) and how she fell sick and more about her, which he wouldn’t do with any other anchor,” the actress signs off.
