Subbu Panchu on a roll
Subbu Panchu, son of veteran writer/ producer Panchu Arunachalam has touched the 25 films mark as an actor. His negative character in Aranmanai 2 has given him a new lease of life.
With six films in his kitty, including Gemini Ganesan and the sequel of Chennai 28, Subbu says he wants to do age-appropriate characters and powerful villain roles in future. Ask him why he chose acting as his career despite being a big producer’s son, he says, “I was always helping dad for his productions right from Rajini sir’s Guru Sishyan. I never wanted to be in front of the camera. But I am a trained dancer and worked in two films as a choreographer. It was Pratap Pothen sir who offered me an important role in his Malayalam directorial venture Daisy. That was my first film.”
Later, it was his negative role ‘Nallathambi’ in Radhikaa’s mega soap Arasi, which made him a household name. After a lull period, he got a break with Boss Engira Bhaskaran, in which he played a comical role as Arya’s brother . “It had a great reach and my stint in comedy started,” he claims.
Soon, Subbu will take on the avatar of writer as well. “I have written three scripts. I wish to approach either Samudhrakani, Rajesh or Venkat Prabhu to direct my script,” he signs off.
