Stars to urge more youngsters to vote!

EC is coming out with a video and short film, where many Kollywood stars urging voters to participate in the elections.

Lights, camera, elections! With the poll season about to commence in Tamil Nadu and election dates to be announced, political parties are gearing up with their candidature selection. The State Election Commission has already started its groundwork — by launching a campaign for the forthcoming State Assembly elections, but with a difference! They are trying to impress upon voters the importance of discharging their democratic duty, by franchising their votes without fail.

Apparently, the EC is coming out with a video and short film, where many Kollywood stars including Suriya and his brother Karthi, cricketers like Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik and squash player Dipika Pallikkal will drive home the message — urging voters to participate in the elections, instead of remaining indifferent.

Speaking to DC, Suriya says, “I am yet to be a part of it; I just got a request from EC. I have been doing this awareness campaign on election for quite some time now, and it feels good when you are approached for a good cause.”

Reportedly, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakoni has endeared to young voters on social media, by using memes and tweets themed around film-pop culture!
Karthi tell us he is always keen to be part of any public awareness campaign — “The government is coming out with lot of informational films — recently, I did one on child adoption. In this upcoming one, we communicate to people to come and vote — it’s especially a call to the youth, as they are the future.”

He adds, “A specific number 1950 has been launched by EC, which helps with electoral details like whether your name is listed in the voting list and where you have to franchise your votes, etc.”

Dipika Pallikal also lends her take, “It’s a great honour and a matter of responsibility for me to be associated with this. I was part of the campaign last year too, urging youngsters to vote!”
