A grand return for Sshivada
The Tamil film industry has always been warm and welcoming towards actors from Malayalam film industry. Nayanthara, Asin, and Bhavana for example have made their own mark in the Tamil film industry. Malayali girl Sshivada Nair, who debuted in Tamil in 2014 with Nedunchalai, has become one of the sought-after actresses in Tamil now. She currently has three films in her kitty — Zero with Ashwin Kakumanu, Vallavanukku Vallavan with Bobby Simha and Kattam with Nivas. She talks to us about her journey so far.
“I’m super-excited, and have a lot of expectation from Zero. It is a fantasy horror film and will be a new experience for the audience. It’s an amazing script and I also love the way my character is established,” starts the actress.
Sshivada says that she is quite selective about films. “I am happy with my work. But I am in no hurry to sign many projects. I believe in quality over quantity, and I am very passionate about films. I will always be related to this industry in one way or the other,” says the talented woman.
Though at an age where actresses stop acting after marriage, Sshivada comes as a breath of fresh air — she has signed more films after her marriage, thanks to her husband’s support. “I should thank my husband and my family for this. They know my affection towards cinema,” the actress muses.
So, what are her main criteria while selecting a project? “First comes the script, and secondly how my character is portrayed in the film. Even if it’s a small screen space, I am willing to do it, provided my character has scope to perform. Also, the team and the director are also very important. I don’t want to be typecast,” says the actress.
Speaking about acting with National-Award winner Bobby Simha, Sshivada says, “I was tensed on the first day of the shoot. But eventually we got along like a house on fire! Bobby is a great actor and has no airs at all. The team is very energetic and dedicated.”
Though her mother tongue is Malayalam, Sshivada managed to dub for her first film. She says, “I was born in Trichy and studied in Chennai till class five before moving to Kerala. So, I’m comfortable speaking Tamil. I am glad that I am able to dub for myself,” she sums up.
