Ruhi Singh, former Miss India, is a multi-faceted person. She is a trained belly dancer, as well as a Bharatanatyam and Kathak artiste. She has also learnt karate and acting. ‘A workaholic’ as she describes herself, seems to be the perfect definition for this diva. The actress is all geared up to make her debut in Kollywood with director Taj’s Bongu. Speaking to DC about her role, Ruhi says, “I play Janani, a non-glamorous woman with expertise in car hacking! I got to drive a lot of sports cars, in addition to a Rolls Royce. My character is a serious one and I got to do all my stunts by myself without using a body double. In fact, I injured my toe during the shoot.”
Ruhi has a close affinity to the south as her friend-cum-actress Rakul Preet Singh is doing pretty well in the industry. “I always wanted to work in the south. Most of the world films that are being made today are inspired from movies in south India!” she added.
“In modeling, we are asked to promote the brand that we are sporting. In films, we become the brand and get to play different characters, which is super interesting and fun. My transition from modelling to acting was a fairly easy one,” Ruhi quips.
Talking about her Hindi debut film, Calendar Girls, with director Madhur Bhandarkar, she said, “ It was an eye-opener as I got to work with one of the best directors in the world. I got inspired seeing his films, and to be a part of his work was overwhelming.”
Ruhi shares the screen with cinematographer-turned-actor Natarajan Subramanian aka Natty in Bongu. “Natty is a great co-star to work with. He is so knowledgeable and he taught me cinematography and a lot of other techniques. My producer Thiru and director Taj were very helpful on the sets,” she added.
Bongu is a travel-based film and a film that will wow car lovers. The film, which was shot in Madurai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, will be wrapped up in two days.
