A new addition to Savitri biopic
The life story of legendary actress Savitri is all set to be translated on celluloid by director Nag Ashwin. The film, which will be made as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, boasts an ensemble cast of Dulquer Salman, Keerthy Suresh and Samantha in the lead roles.
According to a source, the latest addition to the cast is Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda who rose to prominence with his national award winning Telugu film Pelli Choopulu. The source reveals, “Initially, Vijay was considered to reprise Gemini Ganesan’s role on-screen. Later, the makers zeroed in on Dulquer for the role and chose Vijay to essay Samantha’s pair in the movie.” This will be Vijay Deverakonda’s debut in Tamil.
We had earlier reported that Samantha essays the role of a journalist in the movie. The biopic will chronicle the life of Savitri from the 1940s to 1980s.
Shooting of the biopic (titled Mahanati in Telugu) will commence by the end of this month or early June.
Art director Shivam Rao who worked on Rana Daggubati-starrer Ghazi, has been roped in to take care of the production design for this venture.
