Jayam Ravi is the hero as well as villain in Bogan
The super hit combo of Jayam Ravi-Hansika, as well as Arvind Swami and director Lakshman are coming together for a film titled Bogan. Producing the big budget flick is none other than Prabhu Deva, under his banner. Lakshman first tasted success when he made Romeo Juliet with Jayam Ravi and Hansika as the lead pair. Similarly, Ravi and Arvind Swami’s Thani Oruvan was a blockbuster hit. Yet another interesting aspect is that Prabhu Deva directed Ravi and Hansika for Engeyum Kaadhal five years ago.
Lakshman speaks to DC about why he repeated his Romeo Juliet pair, and spills the beans about their characters in the film, and more. “Ravi is one of the best heroes in the industry. He was the one who gave me recognition in Tamil cinema. He is next to God to me. And honestly, Hansika has a lot of scope to perform in this film, and she is the perfect choice,” Lakshman quips. Quiz him about the genre, and he says, “Bogan will not come under any particular genre. It’s a first-of-its-kind in K’town and perhaps overall you can classify it as an action thriller.”
Interestingly, it was Ravi who told Lakshman to approach Arvind Swami for the other lead. “After Ravi heard the script, he suggested that I cast Arvind, but I was a bit apprehensive. Ravi gave me the confidence, saying that it is a new genre and it would definitely impress Arvind.” We learn that Ravi will don khaki in the film and has undergone a strict diet regime to shed a few kilos. “While Ravi plays a cop, he has a dual-dimensional role. He will be a hero in the first half, and a villain in the latter part. Arvind plays a former prince, and Hansika plays a homemaker,” Lakshman adds.
So, what does ‘Bogan’ mean? “Bogan means one who is addicted to worldly pleasures,” he says. We ask ‘who is the ‘Bogan’ here — Ravi or Arvind Swami?’ Lakshman laughs, “You need to wait till Diwali to know the answer, when the film has been scheduled for release.” The shoot will commence with a kutthu song, Damaal Dumeel (akin to Dandana kka from Romeo Juliet) under Imman’s music direction at a grand set erected at Binny Mills on March 18.
