Vijay Sethupathi all praise for Kalanjiam
Filmmaker Kalanjiam who hit the stands while he and actress Anjali had an ugly fight during the shooting of his film Oor Suttri Puranam, returns after a gap as an actor in the film Kodai Mazhai. Vijay Sethupathi who watched the film at a special screening, heaps laurels on Kalanjiam for his realistic portrayal of a straightforward cop in the movie.
Sethupathi says, “Tamil cinema has got a wonderful actor. Rather than acting, I felt he has lived the role of a cop from Thirunelveli.” When asked if he prefers direction or acting, here is what Kalanjiam said “See, basically, I am a creator and hence my focus is on direction only. If anyone offers me a good role, I don’t mind doing it.”
Kalanjiam will be seen in two films — Merlin where he portrays a farmer; and Kalavu Thozhirchalai directed by Krishnakumar, a former assistant to Shankar, and KV Anand, where he plays a CBI Officer.
At present he is busy filming Mundhiri Kaadu, which has Seeman in a crucial role, besides Pugazh Mehendran and Subhapriya as the lead pair. “The movie is about the problems faced by cashewnut farmers, with a dash of romance thrown in,” he says.
When asked about his jinxed project Oor Suttri Puraanam that created the huge controversy with Anjali, he quickly responds, “Since elections for various bodies from TFPC to Nadigar Sangam were happening one after another, the complaint given to the associations is yet to get resolved.” He also claims that he never got the opportunity to meet Anjali after that!
