Young music composer Nivas K Prasanna, whose debut musical venture Thegidi was a runaway hit, has been receiving accolades for his latest outing Zero. He tells DC, “Zero was a perfect blend of romance, fantasy and horror. Though I have been getting a good response from different quarters after Thegidi, I am quite choosy about which films to sign. I am equally open to working with new directors. Currently, I am working on Kootathil Oruvan. It’s a village-based script. Actually, I had signed this after Thegidi, but Sethupathi happened first.”
Having learned music from a young age, Nivas says it’s been his dream to become a music director. “I learnt Carnatic music because my parents wanted me to, but it was film music that fascinated me. Back then I was obsessively looking for avenues to enter the industry,” adds Nivas, who has completed all seven grades of music from the Trinity College of Music, London.
Nivas smiles, “I know people expect a lot from me. So, every time I strive to give something different, something not stereotypical. I am comfortable with filmmakers who don’t impose restrictions for my work with the music.”
Query him about the time he takes with his projects, and Nivas says, “I am not concerned about hits, but about quality music. I am keen on using a live orchestra for most of my projects, and it gets delayed a bit because of that. I know that I take my own time to compose music for films, but henceforth, I will make sure that I double my speed, and deliver projects on time. There is a new composer entering the industry almost every week, but the question is about sustenance. I hope I am here to stay,” he concludes.
