AMMA has no ethics, says MP N K Premachandran

Protecting an accused is an offence and the association's involvement might sabotage the investigations.

KOLLAM: Mr N.K. Premachandran MP has lashed out at AMMA, the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors, for banning people from their right to employment and violating the constitutional laws. “Thilakan who became the godfather of Malayalam cinema after actor Sathyan was also banned by this association. This led to the untimely death of that great actor,” Mr. Premachandran said here on Monday.

“The association, that includes actors who are also people’s representatives, has announced its stand of protecting the person who is facing investigation for his involvement in the actor assault case, proving that it lacks a democratic approach on the issue. It is a shame and against ethics that the people’s representatives (Innocent, MP, and MLAs K.B. Ganeshkumar and M. Mukesh) continue in this body. The association should be dissolved and a CBI probe should be conducted into the actor assault case,” he said.

The association was protecting vested interests, he said and asked the state government to scrutinise the functioning of the association which lacks democracy. Two young directors are currently facing ban by the association as they attempted to point out the faults of AMMA and FEFKA, which is denial of their right to express their opinions, he said. Protecting an accused is an offence and the association’s involvement might sabotage the investigations. This had forced the state police chief to express his discontent in the investigation, he added. The government was also supporting the unlawful activities of AMMA, he alleged.
