Ottal in Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles
Ottal, the national award-winning movie directed by Jayaraj, will be screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA), which will begin on April 6 at Los Angeles in the United States. Ottal will be sharing the space with other films such as Aligarh, Beeba Boys, Brahman Naman, CRD, For The Love of a Man, Island City, Kirumi, Kothanodi, Masaan, Parched and Umrika from India.
Ottal narrates the story of a young boy and his relationship with his grandfather, who is his sole support. The movie had bagged the Kerala state award in the best film category. Ottal was earlier screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), Mumbai film festival and Berlin Film Festival.
In IFFK, it has won the coveted Suvarna Chakoram award, Best Film - International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) jury, Best Malayalam film - Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) jury, and Rajatha Chakoram awards. In Berlin Film Festival, Ottal has been awarded the Crystal Bear award. Ottal also won the Golden Gateway of India award and the Film for Social Impact award in the Mumbai film festival.
Founded by Christina Marouda, IFFLA is claimed to be the first Indian film fest to put Indian cinema on the global map. “India’s independent filmmakers are taking bold risks, defying convention, and responding to injustice in each of these visionary films, and the results are breathtaking,” says Christina. IFFLA will conclude on April 10.
