The upcoming two-year timeskip in the series Jamai Raja will introduce fans to a suprising new twist in the form of popular character DD’s tragic demise, which means, veteran actress Achint Kaur who has protrayed DD so far will bid adieu to the show.
Achint’s portrayal of DD has remained one of the most popular characters and the actor too has been consistently lauded for taking up a role that defied stereotypical notions of a Saas on television. With her urbane and sophisticated aura she fit the role perfectly and set a new benchmark as the grand and stylish DD.
Commenting on her journey coming to an end, an emotional Achint says, “With a gradual progression in the storyline, my character will die creating a rift between Sid and Roshni. DD is and will always remain a character close to my heart as it has connected beautifully with the audience.
I will miss everyone from the crew and cast. I wish them luck. May the show continue to win audience’s love and loyalty.” Achint further adds, “The sole reason behind me accepting the role of Durga Devi (DD) was that it challenged me as an actor.
I have never opted for run-of-the-mill characters that follow a predictable pattern. DD was not your quintessential mother or saas — she is ambitious, practical and has a tough exterior. There were many layers to her and exploring her graph as a character has been one of the most fascinating journeys for me as an artiste.”
Post DD’s death, the next phase of the show will explore an all new aspect of Sid and Roshni’s equation along with the entry of a few new characters.
