Cheque bounce: Tollywood's Bandla Ganesh gets 6 months rigorous imprisonment
Hyderabad: Tollywood star producer Bandla Ganesh was convicted in a ‘cheque bounce’ case by a city court on Friday. The court sentenced Ganesh to six months of rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,86,550. The court has also ordered a further three months of simple imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine. Meanwhile, the sentence was suspended after Ganesh submitted personal bonds before the court. The court was hearing a petition filed by movie writer Vakkantham Vamsi. According to Vamsi’s counsel, he had worked for Junior NTR starrer movie “Temper”, which was produced by Ganesh.
However Ganesh did not completely pay the remuneration for the work and Rs 26.10 lakh was due to Vamsi. The due amount was given to Vamsi in the form of post-paid cheques. But all the cheques were dishonoured at the bank. Vamsi then filed a petition in the XVI Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Erram-anzil in 2015 and a case was registered under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
While the court proceedings were in progress, Ganesh paid Rs 17 lakh to Vamsi, but after the dates on which he had committed that he would pay. However the balance of over Rs 9 lakh was still pending. The court after verifying all the evidences and conducting a trial, delivered the judgement convicting the producer. The court awarded him a sentence of six months of rigorous imp-risonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,86,550.
