Women around India are sleeping in parks to reclaim their right to public spaces

The campaign Meet to Sleep, invites women across the country to gather in public spaces, and sleep there to fight gender restrictions.
The campaign started by Blank Noise seeks to challenge the beliefs and prejudices regarding women being confined to their homes and not having a right to public spaces as much as men. - Following that, there have been eleven meets across various Indian cities like Jaipur, Pune and Mumbai.
- The first of such meets was held in November, 2014 at Bengaluru's Cubbon Park.
- Testimonials of women participating in the Meet to Sleep campaign show that such actions helped them to build their confidence and feel a better sense of control in public spaces.
- Rising rates of gender violence reported in the country have brought about an increased awareness among women of all ages to fight the inherent misogyny prevalent in our societies.
- Movements like these hope to remove the fear-based relationship that most women have developed with regards to public spaces.
- The Meet to Sleep campaign was started in 2014 and like the Why Loiter movement seeks to normalise the sight of women to be about in public.
