Yogurt could reduce risk of stroke, heart attack: Study

Find out how yogurt can help.

Consuming yogurt, which contains 'good bacteria' daily could reduce your risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack, a new study claims.

Diets high in salt are killing off beneficial bacteria in our guts, researchers have found, the Daily Mail reported.

The body starts to produce cells that increase inflammation without these microbes. This makes the blood vessels narrower and makes a person more prone to suffer from a heart attack or stroke.

Germs killed off due to high salt diets can be replaced with the 'good bacteria' in a pro-biotic yogurt drink, researchers recommend.

Though the research looks promising, experts warn a further investigation in the link between probiotics and reduced blood pressure is needed.

"We're learning the immune system exerts a lot of control on the body, above and beyond what we generally think of as immunity. The mechanisms by which it exerts that control are still being unravelled," Professor Eric Alm, a biological engineer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told the Daily Mail.
