Women have more nightmares about their partners cheating on them: study

It said men dream mostly about flying or making money.

A recent study has revealed that women have more nightmares than men and their most common dream is their partner cheating on them.

The consequent three most frequently-described dreams among women are teeth falling out, being chased and seeing spiders, reports the Daily mail. The men, on the other hand, are most likely to dream about flying, meeting a beautiful stranger or finding money.

The findings are based on a study of 2,000 men and women across the United States, carried out by bed firm Amerisleep. The study found the most commonly seen dream in the country is about falling that closely followed by having sex with someone you shouldn't.

Other common dreams among the people were about being chased, being back in school and being unprepared for a test or important event. While men also report nightmares, but they more typically dream of exciting and joyful things.

Anne Cutler, a psychoanalyst, while rationalising the root of gender disparities in dreams explained, "Nightmares come from anxiety and women being more prone to anxiety disorders than men may be an underlying reason for this."

Jennie Parker, a psychology researcher, has speculated that women may be more fixated on their anxieties and may be more likely to remember dreams that focus on those anxieties.

"If women are asked to report the most significant dream they ever had they are more likely than men to report a very disturbing nightmare," said Parker after publishing a report that drew a similar conclusion.

The study also highlighted that more than a quarter of women remember their dreams almost every night compared to 14 percent for men.
