Centre asks Telangana government for report on plastics

While banning the usage of plastic, the Central government had directed the state government to prepare a detailed action plan.

Hyderabad: Union environment, forest and climate change ministry has asked the Telangana government to submit a report on action taken on plastic waste management by urban local bodies and its future plan of action.

Every urban local body — muncipality and muncipal corporation — need to submit report to the Central government on this. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has also asked the state government report on solid waste management urban local bodies.

While banning the usage of plastic, the Central government had directed the state government to prepare a detailed action plan on quantity and characterise plastic waste generated by each urban local body in the state.

“Every urban local body shall prepare and submit an annual report to the concerned secretary and state pollution control board by June 30 every year,” the Central government had said in its direction.

Accordingly, the state municipal administration department had sent a circular to all urban local bodies in the state to send the action plan report for submitting it to the Centre.

The deadline for the submission of action taken reports was July 31. The union environmental ministry, meanwhile, also asked the state government to submit the action plan by urban local bodies on solid waste management.

In another circular to urban local bodies, the Telangana government said that it is obligatory on the part of the municipality to obtain authorisation from state pollution control board for setting up waste processing, treatment disposal facility and furnish the report.

The Telangana state pollution control board will prepare consolidated report for furnishing the same to central government.
