Hyderabad: After evading arrest for two weeks, Army Major Vaibhav Vishal who allegedly harassed his RJ wife Sandhya and forced her to commit suicide was arrested by north zone police on Wednesday.
After the death of Sandhya on April 17, Vishal, who was accused of harassing her for dowry and forcing her to become slim, was admitted at the Military Hospital due to health complications. On Wednesday after he was discharged from hospital, Army officials handed him over to Bolarum police. He was remanded to custody.
Sandhya Singh who got married to Major Vishal in September 2015 was found hanging at their official residence in Bolarum. However, since the residence was located in Army area, the incident which occurred on April 18 did not come out. But the incident came to light when Sandhya’s family approached the police alleging that her death was a murder.
Immediately after that Vishal Singh got himself admitted at the Military hospital complaining of heart complications. As he was on military premises, police could not enter it and take him to custody. Meanwhile, police wrote to military officials seeking his custody. Sandhya’s family alleged that as their marriage was a love marriage and as Sandhya belonged to a lower caste, Vishal had been harassing her to bring more dowry. A few days before killing herself, she told her colleagues that she was fed up with life.
On Wednesday, after he was discharged from hospital, his superiors informed the police about it and he was arrested and remanded.
Begumpet ACP S. Ranga Rao said they have set up teams to nab his mother Asha Singh, a gynaecologist and his sister Megharai alias Kushi, a bank employee. The case is being investigated.
