‘Godfathers’ fail to protect Nageswar Rao

Days after the Rachakonda police registered cases of abduction, rape and arms use against him, an internal inquiry awaits the suspended cop

Hyderabad: Suspended police inspector K. Nageswar Rao evaded cases of kidnap, rape, and arms use, among others, as he was closely acquainted with senior police officials, referred to as ‘godfathers’, who failed to rescue him this time around due to strong evidence of his illegal activities that were reportedly submitted by a politician to senior police officials.

Days after the Rachakonda police registered cases of abduction, rape and arms use against him, an internal inquiry awaits the suspended cop. The probe will also ascertain the origins of his properties, as he has failed to furnish details of the same.

Rao was working with the task force for over four years, since the last general elections. He was transferred to the Banjara Hills police station as an inspector, following an altercation with a politician at the Radisson Blu.

“There was an internal dispute that took place between Nageswar and a senior politician in Banjara Hills after the politician questioned the inspector on allegations of demanding bribes from a businessman in a land dispute case. The leader concentrated on Nageswar Rao’s illegal activities and a report has allegedly been submitted to higher-ups with proper evidence. Since then, Nageswar Rao faced transfer from Banjara Hills to Marredpally after allegedly demanding Rs 25 lakh bribe from a businessman in connection with a land dispute case,” a source said.

The source added that since the politician stepped up his campaign against Rao, the police department godfathers have maintained their silence and also apologised to Rao for their inability to help him. Following this, he surrendered to the special operation team of Rachakonda.
