Three students drown in Vadde Kandriga tank

Some of the students wanted to learn swimming in the tank while a few stayed back on land.

Nellore: Three students who ventured into a tank for swimming at Vadde Kandriga village of Pulathota Panchayath in Doravari Sathram mandal of SPSR Nellore district were drowned on Sunday afternoon. The victims have been identified as Karna Rakesh, 14, and Vanka Venkata Hemanth, 12, of Anegottam and Choppala Jayakrishna, 14, of Anepudi. Rakesh and Jayakrishna were studying Class IX while Heamanth was student of Class VII at a high school at Pulathota. Hemanth and Rakesh were the only sons to their parents.

According to police, Rakesh and Hemanth did not know swimming. They went to Vadde Kandriga when their classmate Rajesh of the village invited them to learnit in the village tank. They were accompanied by two more friends, Dinesh and Harish. Jayakrishna, who knows swimming, Rakesh and Hemanth went into the water while the other three remained on the banks of the tank.

They raised an alarm on noticing their friends disappearing into the tank one after the other. Locals rushed to the spot but it was too late to save them. They only managed to fish out the bodies. It took nearly two hours for them to locate the bodies struck in a deep trench from where soil was removed sometime back.

The parents of the deceased reached Vadde Kandriga and broke down on seeing the bodies of their children. Nayudupeta RDO Seena Nayak and Doravarisathram SI Koti Reddy came to the spot and consoled the parents.
