Andhra Pradesh: Ban screening of Arjun Reddy, demand women's associations
Vijayawada: Controversy on Arjun Reddy movie is continuing even after a week of its release. Even before one could forget about YSRC leaders complaining to Vijayawada police requesting them to stop screening of the movie, women's associations in the city have staged a protest at Sailaja Theatre in the city on Thursday demanding stopping screening of the film.
Women's wing of the Congress party, along with leaders of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), picked the poster of Arjun Reddy and alleged that the movie makers portrayed women in an objectionable way.
“In a bid to make profits, they have degraded women and portrayed the in a obscene way. Huge posters of lip locks on city buses and public places are disturbing. A few scenes in movie portrayed women as a dumb doll,” said Andhra Pradesh Congress Party Women's wing leader Sunkara Padma Sree.
“Tollywood filmmakers are degrading women everyday and making attempts to earn money by making films with obscene content. Arjun Reddy is the best example. This movie is against our culture and we demand that it should not be screened,” said NFIW state secretary P. Durga Bhavani. Police have arrested the women agitators at the movie theatre in the city and shifted them to various police stations. The lip locks have been a matter of discussion since its release.
