Hyderabad loves us: K Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday asserted that the Telangana state government would maintain law and order with an iron hand and ensure that there was no repeat of the Old City poll violence.
The Chief Minister also hinted that the TRS would continue its alliance with its 2014 election ally MIM despite the violent incidents during the polls and asserted that people of all regions and religions in Hyderabad, including those from Seemandhra, would be treated equally.
An elated Mr Rao showed a double thumbs-up to the media and thanked Hyderabadis for bestowing faith in the TRS. “The landslide victory shows Hyderabadis are with the TRS and KCR. TRS’ win is a historic need of Telangana. Other parties did not cross single digits. They gave such a huge majority because they liked us and loved us. Without this, we could not have won such a huge victory. I am sure journalists and their families too voted for us. I promise that I will serve all with all humility and ensure a corruption-free GHMC,” he said.
Opposition parties shocked
5 pm, February 5, 2016, would have been the worst moment in the political life of many Opposition leaders. As news of the TRS’s unheard-of mandate spread, party leaders went into a huddle for hours to try and figure out what went wrong. The TD, BJP and Congress offices wore a deserted look, with no trace of leaders or activists.
TS TD president L. Ramana said the party would analyse the reasons for its dismal performance. “We will continue to fight for the cause of people in Hyderabad. The TRS and the CM made several promises. It’s their responsibility to fulfill all these promises. The TD will strive to bring pressure on the TRS to fulfill them,” he said.
TS BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said the public believed the promises made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on providing one lakh 2-BHK houses and constructing world class infrastructure. “Such results are totally unexpected. It’s up to the TRS and the CM to live up to their expectations,” he said.
City Congress president Danam Nagender said that the TRS had an advantage as a ruling party. “The TRS government has three years to go and the people believed that as a ruling party it can deliver the poll promises when compared to others. The Congress, which was in power in the GHMC, is confined to single digits, which is shocking.”
