Quota issue: MRPS activist dies while protesting at Hyderabad Collectorate
Hyderabad: A woman collapsed while the police were clearing protestors of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) from the Hyderabad collectorate. She was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The MRPS had given a call for its members to gherao Collectorate demanding an all-party meeting for the formation of a resolution to be sent to the Centre for the categorisation of reservations for Schedule Caste communities.
In response to this call, MRPS activists gathered at the Hyderabad Collectorate to hold a protest at noon. When officials invited some leaders to enter the office and submit their representation, all the protesters tried to rush in. The police began arresting them to prevent them from entering the Collectorate.
S. Bharati from the Secunderabad Cantonment area collapsed while trying to protest her arrest. She was immediately shifted by the police to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) where she was declared dead on arrival.
