Karnataka will go dry on April 20

The association has said that the members will march from Mourya Circle to the Chief Minister's residence that day.

Bengaluru: April 20 is going to be a dry day in the state. The liquor sellers association has announced that all vendors will stop the sale of liquor across the state demanding an amendment to Rule 5 of the Karnataka Excise Act.

The association has said that the members will march from Mourya Circle to the Chief Minister’s residence that day. Association president S. Guruswamy told the media on Friday that because of the recent Supreme Court order, 6,018 licences will be cancelled and over one lakh people will be pushed to the streets.

“To avoid or circumvent the apex court order, the state government should declare state highways as district highways and allow renewing of bar licences till September 30. The state government should also brief the central government about the complications liquor vendors are facing,” he said.
