Chandrababu Naidu vows to get special category status
Hyderabad: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Thursday that there would be no compromise on the special category status for AP. He said that he had never compromised on any issue in his life, and he was ready to go to any extent to protect the state’s interest.
Making the statement in the Legislative Council, Mr Naidu said that he had requested the Centre several times about granting special status to AP. He said that the state government’s policy was to take whatever the Centre gives and fight for whatever the state requires.
The CM added that the Centre had earlier decided to fund the Polavaram project at the rate of 70:30 but due to pressure by the state government, it has agreed to fund 100 per cent of the Polavaram project.
Mr Naidu said that the Centre had announced the package late on Wednesday and he had wanted to make a statement in the Assembly but it had not been possible.
He said that the funds by the Centre for the construction of Amaravati were not sufficient and added that creating infrastructure facilities would play a key role and it has to issue a notification on tax concessions to industries yet.
