Bengaluru: Buses, cabs, autos to stay off road Monday
BENGALURU: With the trade unions of the transport corporations BMTC and KSRTC and cab drivers unions, including Ola and Uber, extending their support to the proposed Bharat Bandh, normal life will be disrupted in the city and the state on Monday. In addition, nearly 1.5 lakh autos will also stay away from the road. The nationwide bandh called by the opposition parties, led by Congress party, is expected to have a good impact in Karnataka, with its coalition party JD(S) too supporting the bandh.
The Left parties CPI, CPI (M), SUCI and CPI-ML will also be organising protest rallies against fuel price hike. CPI’s Bangalore district council secretary G. Babu said the price rise was due to the economic mismanagement by the Narendra Modi Government. All the state run transport corporations - KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and NEKRTC would stay off the road as the KSRTC Staff and Workers Federation, which has its affiliation with the AITUC, has extended its support to the bundh.
Autos to stay away
CITU General Secretary Meenakshi Sundaram, who is also the president Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union, said "Petrol price is skyrocketing and this will have a direct impact on the common man. Price of essential items are set to increase while the wages of common man remains the same."
We condemn the move of the union government favoring the corporates and looting the common man by increasing the fuel prices day after day, he added. There are nearly 1.5 lakh autos in the city and all of them have extended their support to the bandh and will stay off the road on Monday, Sundaram added. Normal Metro service BMRCL has maintained that Namma Metro will run its services as usual on Monday.
