Mahbubabad: No toilets? It could mean tough action
Warangal: The district administration is leaving no stone unturned to make Mahbubabad outdoor-defecation-free by June 2.
Collector Preethi Meena said the administration would cancel pensions, confiscate ration cards or cut the electricity in those houses which do not have individual sanitary toilets. She directed officials to appoint one person in charge of each of the 28 divisions in the town and finish the construction works as soon as possible.
“We have noticed 450 insanitary latrines in the town and issued notices to the residents to convert them into sanitary latrines. We intend to file criminal cases against these homeowners as they could be a cause of spreading disease. To upgrade these, we’ll be providing Rs 7000 per toilet,” Ms Meena said.
In Mahbubabad, out of the 1,959 applications received for ISLs, 1,624 have been approved and 800 have completed construction. Others are in various stages of paperwork and construction. Complete payment for 386 ISLs has been given.
There are 950 houses which have not yet applied for an ISL in Mahbubabad. The officials were asked to take action against these households and ensure they get an ISL in their house.
The collector set a target of June 2 to complete construction of all these toilets and declared Mahbubabad an ODF.
The administration would cancel pensions, confiscate ration cards or cut the electricity in those houses which do not have individual sanitary toilets. Those who have unclean toilets could face criminal action.
