Hotel in Hyderabad checked over rumours on meat
Hyderabad: Shah Ghouse Hotel and Restaurant at Gachibowli was issued notice by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) asking it to buy meat only from registered slaughter houses. During a surprise visit by veterinary inspectors with food and health officers, unstamped meat was found on the premises.
“We have taken samples of meat for testing. We have also told them that procuring meat from registered sources will help ensure quality while keeping off unfounded claims,” a member of the team said.
Shah Ghouse has three hotels in the city and it procures meat worth Rs 15 lakh daily, sources in the hotel industry said. Officials inspected the procurement area and found that some of the samples did not have GHMC labels.
“Three-fourths of the procurement are from registered slaughter houses but one-fourth is from private abatoirs,” a senior member of the inspection team stated on condition of anonymity.
Cyberabad police has not registered any case against the hotel, saying that allegations of using dog meat were false and intended to defame the hotel. Social media was abuzz with rumours for the the last two days.
A senior member of the hotel industry said, “The messages in social media are to defame the hotel. Only goat meat is being used by the hotel.”
Meanwhile, the hotel management has lodged a complaint with Cyberabad Police seeking action against two TV channels for telecasting fake news against them.
