AIADMK MP seeks CBI probe into Jayalalithaa death

The Minister seems to have misrepresented facts since the state government has ordered no probe into her death.

Chennai: Namakkal MP PR Sundaram, who is with the OPS camp, on Tuesday, reiterated the demand for a CBI probe into the "mysterious" death of party supremo J. Jayalalithaa on the floor of Lok Sabha.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the issue was of "great concern" but the Tamil Nadu Government has already ordered a probe and that the Union Government can act only after its report is submitted. The Minister seems to have misrepresented facts since the state government has ordered no probe into her death.

O. Panneerselvam, while he was heading a lame duck government, had said a probe would be initiated to go into the circumstances in which Jayalalithaa died. However, no probe was initiated.

Mr Sundaram, who has extended his support to Mr Panneerselvam, claimed nobody was allowed to meet Jayalalithaa during her 75 days of hospitalisation. "She was said to be suffering from dehydration and fever when she was admitted but it was suddenly announced that she had a heart attack following which she died," Mr Sundaram said. "We want a CBI inquiry into the mysterious death," he said.
