WARANGAL: Two children drowned in a pit which was dug to construct individual household toilets at Mylaram village of Rayaparthy mandal in Warangal Rural district.
Family members discovered their bodies late on Thursday night.
According to the police, the victims were identified as Siluveru Sakrutha, 6, and Lakkam Arjun, 8.
The pit dug for constructing toilets was left unattended for a long time and was filled with water.
While the children were playing on Thursday evening, they accidentally fell into the pit.
The parents who thought the children were playing with their neighbours’ children did not bother. They grew suspicious and started searching for them after they did not turn up in their homes even at dinner time.
They inquired with their neighbours and searched the surroundings in vain.
The villagers spread across the village and intensified their search and found the children dead in the pit behind a house at about 9 pm.
