Brazil President extends support to India's NSG bid during meet with Modi

Modi also said that both countries had agreed that the world must come together to fight the menace of terror.

Benaulim (Goa): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held bilateral talks with Brazil's President Michel Temer, following the BRICS summit in Goa.

The two leaders discussed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and ways to deepen ties between the two countries.

“Delighted that Goa with its distinct Portuguese heritage is part of his maiden visit here,” Modi said of the Brazilian President in his speech following the meeting.

“The bilateral relations between India and Brazil have grown for the better. We have increased interaction at all levels,” Modi added.

“We thank Brazil for understanding India's aspiration for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group,” said Modi after Temer backed India’s bid to enter NSG.

Speaking about terrorism, Modi said India appreciates Brazil's support for its actions in combating terrorism. He stated that both countries had agreed that the world must come together to fight the menace of terror ‘without distinction or discrimination’.

Calling Brazil one of India’s most important economic partners in Latin America, Modi said India and Brazil are close to finalizing the text of a bilateral investment agreement.

Both bilaterally and multilaterally, the partnership between India and Brazil is filled with possibilities that we are keen to harvest, said Modi.

The PM encouraged Brazilian companies to invest in India and ‘forge a long commercial partnership.’

"Bridging distances with Brazil. PM @narendramodi and President @MichelTemer of Brazil lead delegation level talks," Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs Vikas Swarup said in a tweet.

"Day 3 in Goa set aside for another Bilateral Summit. PM @narendramodi welcomes President @MichelTemer of Brazil," he said.

This was the last round of bilateral talks Modi held with BRICS leaders from major emerging national economies - Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa.
