Senior IPS officer found dead in Chennai Police Officers Mess

Chennai: A 2009 Batch IPS officer whose promotion had been delayed was found dead in his room Police Officers Mess in the City, on Thursday.

32-year-old, N Harish, a native of Karnataka, was staying in room no 104 of Police Officers Mess located in Egmore.

Sources said Harish was upset over the delay of promotion to the cadre of SP (Superintendent of Police) from ASP(Additional Superintendent of Police) while almost every one of his batch-mates serving in the State were promoted.

The deceased reportedly failed to clear his regional language paper, which stalled his promotion. Unconfirmed reports stated that the deceased was also upset because of an inquiry initiated two years ago by the State top brass.

He was recently transferred to Chennai as ASP in the State Police's vigilance arm – DVAC (Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption) from Madurai.

His death came to light Thursday morning when a member of the staff at the Officer’s Mess broke into Harish’s room to find him lying dead on his bed. The body was moved to the Police Hospital in Egmore where an inquiry was held.

City Police maintained that the officer could have been died of a natural cause. “The actual cause of death would be known only after a post-mortem examination”, a senior police official told DC.
