K. Ganesh, a resident Brindavan Nagar in Nanganallur complained that worst is that nobody attended telephone call in fuse off office when he tried to make a complaint. “We are clueless as to when will the power return,” he said, adding that power went off in his locality after 12 midnight when the rain started lashing heavily and it went off at least three times till 8 am.

In Urapakkam, the power went off at 10.30 pm on Monday and to return only in the morning at 10. “We are often facing power outages during the night. Now they are making rain as an excuse to cut power,” said N. Ravikumar, a resident of Urapakkam.

However, a senior Tangedco official denied long hours of power outage in South Chennai. “There were stray incidents of power cut. No major power outage was reported,” the official. A local Tangedco official said that uprooting and falling of branches on the overhead cables led to power outage in Nanganallur area. “We restored the power in the morning after clearing the tree branches,” he said.
