36 cases against pro-Kannada activists
Bengaluru: As many as 36 cases have been booked against the activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) of Narayana Gowda faction for blackening Hindi text on the signboards at Metro stations in protest against imposition of Hindi.
The city police have booked the activists for destroying public property and produced them before the courts. On Thursday, six KRV activists were arrested and released on bail after they were found blackening the Hind text on the signboard at K.R. Market Metro station.
KRV activists are running a campaign in protest against ‘imposition’ of Hindi at the Metro station, which is a state project. The activists have painted Hindi text black at Indiranagar, Jayanagar, Peenya, Deepanjali Nagar, Mysuru Road and Yeshwanthpur metro stations.
However, the activists accuse police officers of falsely booking them under different sections of IPC including IPC 153 (a) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony). The activists claim they have not provoked anybody and never through actions or speeches promoted enmity or hatred.
