Karnataka: If the Reddys can splurge it, can Jarkiholi be far behind?
Belagavi: It’s the turn of Congress leaders to squirm with embarrassment as small scale industries minister Ramesh Jarkiholi splurged on his son Santosh’s wedding at a two-acre wide mantap, shaped like Kolhapur’s Mahalakshmi temple, at Gokak town, on Sunday.
The entire town was decorated as the sugar baron-turned-politician hosted more than 1.5 lakh guests at the mega buck wedding in the air-conditioned mantap. A helipad was built on the outskirts of the town for the arrival of VVIPs who were later ushered into the venue with much fanfare. Ministers D.K. Shivakumar, H.K. Patil, Rudrappa Lamani and U.T. Khader attended the wedding of Santosh, an engineer, but Chief Minister Siddaramaiah skipped it though he was in this border district. The menu listed only vegetarian delicacies which included a big spread of sweets.
Less than a week ago, Congress leaders had targeted former BJP minister and mine baron G Janardhan Reddy for spending about Rs 500 crores on his daughter Brahmini’s wedding in Bengaluru palace. They had mocked at BJP leaders about such an opulent wedding during a debate in parliament on demonetization of high value currency notes.
