Filmmaker among 25 held in University of Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Among the 25 people arrested from the UoH Campus in connection with Tuesday’s violence, there was also a filmmaker, Moses Tulasi, who was peacefully documenting the protest.
He was charged with IPC section 324,353,332,147. Friends of Moses call the charges baseless. “There is no base for the arrest. The cops just want to threaten the Students Union and the whole community who is supporting them. It was, in fact, a very peaceful protest that was turned into a brutal attack by the cops. Moses, too, was documenting the protest peacefully, without meaning any harm,” says Navdeep, a friend of Moses.
Court reserves order on bail plea
The order for bail petition of the 25 University of Hyderabad students and two faculty members, who were sent to judicial remand in connection with Tuesday's violence, has been reserved for Monday. Around 20 professors from UoH took up the role of guardians for the students and fellow faculty members as they went to the Miyapur court with advocates on Thursday for filing the bail petition.
One of the professors said, “There have been administrative lapses in handling the Rohith Vemula issue by the university and the students have been protesting about it for months. Their basic demands have not been met yet. These are our students and it is our duty to look after them, especially in such situations. We have also received phone calls from worried parents of some of the students and we tried to calm them down. We have been told that there is even a large network of UoH alumni of around 1,500 people who are supporting the students and will pay the bail surety.”
