Siddaramaiah goes on city tour to check monsoon preparedness by civic agencies

The CM announced a slew of infrastructure projects to ease traffic congestion on busy roads.

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, during his inspection of the city to check the monsoon preparedness by civic agencies, on Tuesday announced a slew of infrastructure projects to ease traffic congestion on busy roads.

“But the inspection should have been conducted at least a month earlier to ensure that the monsoon goes off without any major problems. Even if drain cleaning works are taken up on priority now, they cannot be completed before the monsoon arrives,” said the people gathered at the inspection.

After the city tour, Mr Siddaramaiah announced projects worth Rs 957 crore to decongest traffic. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared for the construction of an elevated corridor at KR Puram without disturbing the existing structures. The cost is being estimated and would be shared by the BDA and state government, he said.

At the Central Silk Board junction, a flyover above the Metro corridor has been planned at a cost of Rs 300 crore. The BMRCL is expected to pump in Rs 200 crore, while the BDA will put in the rest, he said.

There is a demand for a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Kaggadasapura to avoid waiting during the movement of trains. It has been planned at a cost of Rs 27 crore, which will be shared by the Railways and BBMP. The chief minister admitted that the inspection was delayed and he attributed it to elections, drought tour and assembly sessions.
