Telangana not in top 5 on LED streetlight list
Hyderabad: Energy Efficiency Services company, under the ministry of power, has become the largest streetlight management firm in the world with the installation of LED streetlights on 50,000 km across the country.
Andhra Pradesh stands in the second place in the country with 6.03 lakh LED streetlights after Rajasthan with 7.85 lakh LED streetlights. Telangana does not find a place among the top five states. Telangana has 13,40,472 LED bulbs and the energy saved is 172.89 MU per year. In AP 2,16,77,316 LED bulbs have been distributed and energy saved is 2,818.02 MU per year.
The Centre has started the Street Lighting National Program (SLNP) to install LED streetlights in the country. According to a power ministry report, installation of 30 lakh LED streetlights has resulted in saving 39 crore KW of energy and has also reduced 3.29 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Currently, Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) is retrofitting 15,000 conventional lights with LED streetlights every day. A report said that the project is nearing completion in Himachal Pradesh, Tripura and Gujarat. To encourage its use, the prices of LED streetlights have been reduced from Rs 135 to Rs 80. EESL bears the entire cost of installation and no additional burden is passed on to urban local bodies. However, they have to pay EESL from the energy saved and a maintenance cost for seven years.
