CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Government would soon take up a major project for tapping unplanned land in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Tirupur districts under a joint technical cooperation agreement with Germany-based GIZ. The agreement was signed between S. Krishnan, Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Tamil Nadu Government and GIZ Project Director, George Johnson, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam at the Secretariat here.
Officials said the agreement was signed between the state and GIZ as part of several pacts that are being signed between Germany and India to utilise the former’s expertise in the field. “The Tamil Nadu government was working towards mitigating issues arising out of unplanned land usage besides formulating efficient land governance schemes. As part of the agreement, a scheme would be developed for tapping unplanned land in Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Tirupur districts,” an official statement said.
