Hyderabad: Though the prices of carrots will come down from the next week, experts say that it may be temporary as Chevella in Rangareddy district supplies carrots to the entire south India. Similarly, green beans will continue with its current price as its season begins in January.
At present, carrot is available for Rs 52 per kg at wholesale market and for Rs 65 in Rythu bazaars and Rs 100 at retail markets. Similarly, green beans are available at Rs 70 per kg at wholesale market, Rs 88 at rythu bazaars and Rs 120 at retail markets.
J. Srinvas, a fast food stall organiser at Gachibowli, said that due to heavy prices of carrot and beans, majority of fast food joints are serving fried rice with less vegetables. “Even restaurants and star hotels reduced carrot and beans in the food they provide,” he noted.
R. Chandraiah, a farmer from Chevella, said that the prices have started coming down. “Chevella is hub for carrot and farmers send it to major cities in the entire South India,” he said.
