P K Jayalakshmi slams charges against her

She has said that she was willing to end her political career if the allegations raised against her are proved.

WAYANAD: Dismissing all the allegations leveled against her, former minister P.K. Jayalakshmi said on Monday that she was willing to end her political career if the allegations raised against her are proved. She was addressing mediapersons in Kalpetta on Monday. Allegations of nepotism and corruption amounting to Rs 1.5 crore are charged against the former minister for welfare of Sheduled Tribes.

"Many projects including Gothra Sarathi and distribution of autorickshaws were implemented during my tenure as minister. However, I was not personally involved in any of these projects. The officials were given instructions to carry out the projects. No favours were made for my relatives. The government should probe if any of the officials are involved. There are nearly 200 people in my family - Palott and many of them are farmers. It is not right to deny them their rights only because, one among them was a minister," Ms Jayalakshmi said.

She added that the allegations are being raised by a cyber quotation gang based in Mananthavady. "I am on the verge of suicide after their emotional and casteist abuses. The department had earmarked Rs 39.52 crore for 12,212 families in the state under the tribal relief fund. The same amount was transferred to Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation, which was the implementing agency. Funds are released on the basis of the lists submitted by the banks," said the former minister.
