EMRC centre at Calicut University bags state award
KOZHIKODE: The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) at Calicut University has bagged the best E-learning practice award of the state government for the year 2015. The multimedia contents on various subjects developed by the EMRC and its webcasting system addressing vast subjects and students are the main achievements considered for the award by the jury of Union IT additional secretary Aruna Sundararajan, state IT secretary M. Sivasankar, IIITM-K director, IT Mission director, NASSCOM representative and journalist Anand Parthasarathy.
The award will be presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Thiruvananthapuram on February 13 at 5 pm. EMRC director Damodar Prasad said the recognition was an encouragement for its activities for students on digital platforms. “Apart from a wide range of resources for webcasting for many subjects, we have also developed multimedia contents for the undergraduate students of math and education. We are pioneers is bringing digital revolution into the higher education sector academics in Kerala by developing digital contents as well as online courses,” he told DC.
The EMRC here is the only such institution in Kerala and one among the 22 centres across the country, with scholars and professionals under the services as subject experts for producing enrichment, educational video lecture and e-content programmes. The EMRC is presently planning to launch their massive open online course (MOOC) and also to telecast the education videos through the Doordarshan DTH service.
