Women flock to secure Kochi Metro jobs
KOCHI: The Kudumbashree Mission has received more than 25, 000 applications for various posts in Kochi Metro Rail Limited. The Kudumbashree office at district collectorate has been witnessing a big crowd of women job aspirants, many of them coming from far off places. The number of applicants is much higher than the openings as the KMRL requires only 750 workers. Kudumbashree workers from all units in the district have submitted applications. A special counter has been opened at the district office to receive the applications and to sort them out.
The Kudumbashree district authorities are surprised by the heavy rush to submit applications for the “prestigious job vacancies in the Metro”. “Last date of receiving the applications is Friday, and they will be sorted out by the month end. The examination and interview for the shortlisted candidates will be held by early March. The Metro authorities will provide one-week training for the selected candidates,” said Tany Thomas, Kudumbashree district mission coordinator. Qualified Kudumbashree members will be appointed at housekeeping, ticket counter, gardening, parking, customer facilitation counter and the canteen.
The selected candidates will have to work in three shifts, round the clock, for eight hours. Priority will be given to the applicants from families displaced by the project or their relatives who have no regular source of income. Educational qualifications are a pass in Class VIII, SSLC or Plus Two depending on the post applied for. The KMRL has taken the decision to rope in the women’s self-help group as part of its policy to induct more women workforce and to make the metro women-friendly. The metro agency had signed a memorandum of understanding with Kudumbashree for the supply of workforce
