Guruvayur temple town set for Ekadesi
Guruvayur: The temple town of Guruvayur is all set for the ‘ekadesi’ festival at the Lord Sree Krishna Temple here on Saturday. Prior to ‘ekadesi’, events like the commemoration of Gajarajan Guruvayur Kesavan and rendition of Pancharathna Keerthanam was held on Friday. One of the major events on Friday, the ‘dashami’ day was the elephant procession to commemorate Kesavan.
As many as 20 elephants from the elephant sanctuary of Guruvayur Devaswom (GD) took out a procession to the statue of the Guruvayur Kesavan near the Southern Entrance of the temple and the seniormost elephant of the GD, Gagarathnan Guruvayur Padmanabhan, garlanded the statue of Kesavan, the legendary elephant that died 41 years ago on a ‘dasami’ day.
Pancharathna Keerthanam
Another major event on ‘dashami’ day was the rendition of the pancharathna keerthanam by an ensemble of nearly a hundred well-known vocalists in Carnatic music. The event was held as a part of the Chembai Musicial Fest and the rendition of the ‘keerthanam’ was 9.am to 10 a.m.
‘Ekadesi Feast’
GD officials said that on ‘Ekadesi’ day, a special feast will be held on the temple premises for the devotees. Delicacies made of wheat will be served at the ‘oottupura’ of the temple and also at a special pandal erected near the temple.
