Senior lawyer C P Udayabhanu may be out of Jishnu murder case
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior lawyer C.P. Udayabhanu is likely to be removed as special prosecutor of the Jishnu Prannoy death case as he is under police scanner in connection with the murder of a real estate agent. According to police sources, the team investigating the Jishnu Prannoy case has recommended to the higher-ups to remove Mr Udayabhanu as he is under police scanner in another case. The investigation team had sent a formal report in his regard to state police chief Loknath Behera. Mr Behera might forward it to the government with his views.
The investigation team is of the opinion that with Mr Udayabhanu under police scanner in another murder case, an effective coordination between the police and lawyer would not be possible. Mr Udayabhanu was even deputed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to mediate with Jishnu's parents to end their indefinite stir in Thiruvananthapuram in April. Jishnu, who was a student at the Nehru College of Engineering at Pampady, was found dead under suspicious circumstances and his family alleged torture by the college management.
Mr Udayabhanu, who was special prosecutor in the murder of security worker Chandrabose, has been under police scanner in connection with the recent murder of a real estate agent Rajeev at Chalakkudy recently. Rajeev’s son alleged Udayabhanu's involvement in the murder and there were also allegations that Udayabhanu had earlier threatened him. Police also got a video footage of Udayabhanu at Rajeev's house.
