Campus placement in Anna University gets a bright start

IT majors like Microsoft, Adobe and Samsung R&D have recruited university students for pay packages of around Rs 20 lakh per annum.

Chennai: Notwithstanding the withdrawal of offers by the e-commerce and software companies, Anna University got off to a bright start to its campus placement drive as three students have received offer letters for Rs 28 lakh per annum, surpassing last year's highest offer. The campus placement began last week in the university.

IT majors like Microsoft, Adobe and Samsung R&D have recruited university students for pay packages of around Rs 20 lakh per annum.

The new recruiter, Arcesium India from Hyderabad, a software development company, recruited three students – M.Radhika, P.R. Prasad and M.Nikhil, who are all studying computer science engineering at the College of Engineering, Guindy — for huge package of Rs 28 lakh per annum.

Last year, Code Nation, a software developer from Bengaluru offered the maximum salary of Rs 24 lakh per annum for two students. “In the past one week around 80 students have got placed at campus recruitment. Students from computer science engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electrical and instrumentation engineering branches got selected in the campus placements,” said T.Thyagarajan, director, Centre for University Industry Collaboration (CUIC), Anna University.

“Last year, we did not witness any withdrawal or delaying of offers by the companies. But still, we will look at the credentials and past performance of the recruiters before scheduling them for recruitment this year,” he said.

E-commerce major Amazon and energy company Cypress are expected to recruit students in the coming weeks. This year more than 200 companies from IT and IT services, core engineering and manufacturing sectors are expected to take part in the recruitment drive.

“We have scheduled the bulk recruitment of IT services companies in the third week of September. The state level placement for affiliated engineering colleges will start in November after the seventh-semester exams,” he added.

The public sector undertakings like Power Grid Corporation of India and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) usually will come for recruitment in the months of March and April.

The university had invited more than 300 companies this year for campus recruitment. More than 3,000 students from university campuses in Alagappa College of Technology in Guindy, College of engineering, Guindy and Madras Institute of Technology, Chrompet will take part in the campus placements.
Last year more than 1,800 students got placed in 160 companies. Many students opted for higher studies and entrepreneurship.
